Today's Skills Spotlight is Abigail Munson. She competed in Criminal Justice and is from our CJ program. She took home a Gold Medal and said the experience really prepared her for the real world. "I feel this experience has helped me in the future by boosting my confidence. I also feel it was a great way to apply information that I have learned to real world instances, through the scenarios I had to complete during my competition."

Today's Skills Spotlight is Nicholas Lowe from our Electrical program. He competed in the Electrical Knowledge Test, winning a Bronze medal. Nick was impressed by the sheer size of the Skills USA competition. "I would say that it was a great experience and a lot of fun. Both of the days were some of the most fun I had with even people I didn't know because of how many people there were. On the closing ceremony day everywhere you went in Bangor you saw a skills Competitor and it is an unmatched feeling."

👏 Alongside our UTC students previously recognized, Grayson Cox, Abigail Munson, and Ethan Thibault have also successfully fulfilled the requirements of the Maine Career Exploration Badge Program provided by Jobs for Maine Graduates. They accomplished a comprehensive 40-hour internship and will be awarded a $500 check as acknowledgment of their dedication. Well done, Grayson, Abigail and Ethan! 🏅

Olivia says it really made her feel like she was in the industry at a high level. "The day of the competition was stressful and exciting! It allowed me to experience working under pressure and exercise my food knowledge."

Today's Skills Spotlight is another group from our Law Enforcement Program. They all competed together in the Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl, bringing back a Bronze medal to UTC. Working with a group of people they didn't necessarily know well was a rewarding experience they won't soon forget. Kallie Bartley (not pictured) says she learned to "not be afraid to do the things that you love...I would recommend people to do skills and UTC because it is the best thing that I did for my high school career."

Jasmine had a bit of a roller coaster experience with Skills USA as she didn't hear her name on awards night only to later on be told she received a gold medal. She competed in Job Interview, a field that is applicable to anyone! "Job Interviews will be necessary for any field that I plan to go into, so this experience has taught be not only the skills to have a successful interview, but also how to build a professional resume and portfolio and soft skills like body language, eye contact, and voice control/pacing."

Garrett has some advice for future UTC students thinking about competing. "Do it. 100%. You will have some of the most fun you will have and meet a lot of great people. Do it and don't look back. Both of these opportunities were amazing and I would never pass them up."

Today's Skills Spotlight is our other group from the Digital Arts and Software Development program. Rivlin Williams and Lucien Lang competed in Interactive Application and Game Design, winning GOLD! "The experience will make me more confident and sure spoken in future presentations," says Rivlin. Lucien says the experience was one they'll never forget. "Winning the medal felt like I did accomplish something and made my heart beat as fast as possible. it always feel good when you win a medal for something especially when you are very good in that field and proved how good you are."

Today's Skills Spotlight is another team. Alexa Nadeau and Koda Allen competed in 3D Visualization and Animation bringing a silver medal back to UTC. "If you are in high-school I think you should do at least one year of UTC and get what it feels like to be using skills with your hands unlike reading it out of a book or typing a paper," says Koda. Alexa agrees! "I've adored my classes, and was quite honored when given this opportunity to compete, and I enjoyed every second of it. I'm sincerely hoping that I can confidently go into a future career involving digital art and animation."

Today's Skills Spotlight is our Quiz Bowl team. It was made up of business students and they took home the GOLD! Pictured are Sydney Gray, Aiden Hatch, Aiden McAlexander, Morgan Stepp and Leigha Thompson. "We arrived early in the morning, anxious to begin our competition," said Morgan "Once we entered the room we realized it was much more relaxed than we were anticipating. We answered confidently and quickly, and had a feeling we'd win gold." Leigha says "standing on the stage with my BEST FRIENDS, with forever be a memory I hold and I am so thankful I participated."
