Today's Skills Spotlight is our other group from the Digital Arts and Software Development program. Rivlin Williams and Lucien Lang competed in Interactive Application and Game Design, winning GOLD!
"The experience will make me more confident and sure spoken in future presentations," says Rivlin.
Lucien says the experience was one they'll never forget. "Winning the medal felt like I did accomplish something and made my heart beat as fast as possible. it always feel good when you win a medal for something especially when you are very good in that field and proved how good you are."

Today's Skills Spotlight is another team. Alexa Nadeau and Koda Allen competed in 3D Visualization and Animation bringing a silver medal back to UTC.
"If you are in high-school I think you should do at least one year of UTC and get what it feels like to be using skills with your hands unlike reading it out of a book or typing a paper," says Koda.
Alexa agrees! "I've adored my classes, and was quite honored when given this opportunity to compete, and I enjoyed every second of it. I'm sincerely hoping that I can confidently go into a future career involving digital art and animation."

Today's Skills Spotlight is our Quiz Bowl team. It was made up of business students and they took home the GOLD! Pictured are Sydney Gray, Aiden Hatch, Aiden McAlexander, Morgan Stepp and Leigha Thompson.
"We arrived early in the morning, anxious to begin our competition," said Morgan "Once we entered the room we realized it was much more relaxed than we were anticipating. We answered confidently and quickly, and had a feeling we'd win gold."
Leigha says "standing on the stage with my BEST FRIENDS, with forever be a memory I hold and I am so thankful I participated."

Today's Skills Spotlight is Kyle Jackson. Kyle is in the Plumbing program at UTC and took home a silver medal in Heating. He says he was confident in his skills but wanted to see how he stacked up against the best the state had to offer. Getting a silver medal "felt good i was very proud of myself."

Yesterday, we partnered with numerous local businesses to host an in-house job fair. Our students had the opportunity to meet and interact with representatives from these businesses, gaining insights into potential career paths. Today's Skills Spotlight is Kevin Carpenter. Kevin is in our Business program and competed in Prepared Speech. The prompt for this year's competition was "No Limits," and Kevin spoke about the fear he felt whitewater rafting last year in Outdoor Recreation at Brewer High School. That experience and resulting speech got him a gold medal!
"When my name was said I jumped out of my seat and started screaming, I was so happy. The anticipation leading up to the closing ceremony really built up to that moment."

Today's Skills Spotlight is our first duo. Timothy Sullivan and Grayson Cox competed in Digital Cinema bringing a gold medal back to UTC. They had one week to create a short film using a series of prompts from the judges.
"SkillsUSA is one of the most triumphant awards I have won," says Timothy. "Well when I go to a film based job in the future, seeing SkillsUSA on my resume will quickly bring attention to me."
Grayson had some strong words for students thinking about competing in the future. "If you're thinking about doing it, DO IT!"

🌲 Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation students recently competed in the Nursery and Landscape competition at the University of Maine. 🌿 In Forestry, they faced a 50-question written exam 📝covering tree and plant identification, forest measurements, and a team presentation on forest fragmentation. As we get closer to our students flying out to Atlanta to represent Maine at Skills USA Nationals we wanted to spotlight some of our medal winners. First up is Tyler Gillie. Tyler has competed in Skills for two years now in Collision Repair and said this year he didn't do as well as he wanted to so he was surprised to get the gold. "It’s a great idea to do even if you might not place the whole thing is a cool experience and you might be surprised and do well."
