Season’s Greetings from all of us at UTC! As we celebrate the holidays, we reflect on a successful first half of the school year, marked by the incredible achievements of our students and the dedication of our staff and faculty. We are so proud of all that has been accomplished so far and are excited to welcome students back in 2025 for a meaningful and productive second half of the year. Wishing all of you and your loved ones a joyful and safe holiday season!

Our Medical Assisting students visited Northern Light Health earlier this week 🏥. They helped stock the food cupboard 🍞, created holiday cards for long-term residents 🎨💌, and assembled gifts 🎁 for patients who will be in the hospital over the holidays 🎄. The students also assisted in hosting a cocoa bar 🍫☕ for the staff and had their pictures taken with Santa Paws 🐾🎅. The students were warmly welcomed 🤗 and received compliments from several physicians 👩⚕️👨⚕️ for generously volunteering their time. #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #InvestInOurFuture #UTC #NorthernLightHealth

Students in the Video & Audio Production piloted a new program this year where they take Husson classes as part of their work here at UTC. They do the exact same curriculum as the college students and even got to take part in their art walk on campus today as part of Photography I. How cool is that!

🏅 We are thrilled to recognize Mr. Canarr as UTC’s first quarter recipient of the Guiding Others, Always Teaching (GOAT) Award. 🏆👏 As the Electric Vehicle Technologies Instructor, Mr. Canarr has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to his students, consistently guiding them to achieve their best and discover their individual paths. 🚗🔋
Students describe Mr. Canarr as industrious, intelligent, easygoing, passionate, and inspiring. 💡 His wealth of knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for teaching are matched by his commitment to fostering growth in every student. 📚 Whether he’s pushing them to excel in their studies or helping them envision their future, Mr. Canarr’s efforts go beyond the curriculum. He’s deeply invested in supporting each student’s journey, ensuring they feel seen, valued and capable of success. Mr. Canarr’s care for his program is undeniable, but his heart truly lies with the students. His ability to connect, encourage, and challenge them exemplifies the very essence of what it means to be a GOAT! Thank you, Mr. Canarr, for your unwavering dedication and for inspiring the next generation to thrive! 🙌🌟 #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #InvestInOurFuture #UTC

Earlier this week, our Pre-Engineering students 👩🔧👨🔧 had the exciting opportunity to tour Somic America, Inc. 🚗, a leading vehicle parts manufacturer. During the visit, they gained valuable insights 💡 by observing the production process—from engineering and design 🛠️ to the manufacturing and assembly of key vehicle components ⚙️. #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #InvestInOurFuture #UTC

A heartfelt thank you to the Bangor Housing Authority for their generous donation of power tools 🔧🔨 to our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Old Town High School! These tools will greatly enhance our students' hands-on learning experiences 🛠️ and help them develop valuable skills for their future careers. We are incredibly grateful for your support 🙏 in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals! #UTC #CTErocks

It's been a great week in the shops! 🔧 Our students are applying the knowledge they've gained in the classroom 📚 to hands-on projects 🛠️ that simulate real-world industry scenarios. 🌍 #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #InvestInOurFuture #UTC

Last week, the Ed Prep students presented their first Read-Alouds 📚 of the school year. This activity supports their coursework for UTC and EMCC 🎓, focusing on strategies for teaching children's literature. Each student selected a book to present, dressed as a favorite character 🦸♀️, and applied various strategies to introduce new vocabulary, ask appropriate open-ended questions to promote engagement 🤔, and demonstrate effective use of voice 🎤, illustration display 🖼️, eye contact 👀, and pacing ⏱️. #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #EMCCProud

Every week, business management students take on classroom jobs and earn "biz bucks" 💵 for their efforts. Once a quarter, they hold an auction 🎉 (complete with paddles!) where they use their accumulated biz bucks to bid on items like workwear passes 👔, homework passes 📝, gift cards 🎟️, and other assorted goodies. One class even managed to save over $700 💰 and bought a food party 🍕 with their earnings! #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #CTErocks

Earlier this week, medical students participated in a hands-on learning experience 🎉 by carving pumpkins 🎃 to deepen their understanding of medical terminology and clinical skills. Before starting, they donned personal protective equipment (PPE) 🧤, mirroring practices in a real clinical setting. Each student created a sterile field around their workstation, simulating the setup necessary for minor surgical procedures. The pumpkins served as stand-ins for patients 🩺, with each student assigned a specific "procedure" to carry out. This engaging activity highlighted the importance of PPE, sterile field preparation, and accurate medical terminology—essential components in any healthcare environment. 📣 A special thank you to the Davis Family Farm for the pumpkins! #MaineCTE #UTC4ME #CTErocks
